What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy. It is based in Western science and ancient eastern philosophies that different points on the feet correspond with different areas of the body. By massaging and treating the feet the whole body is enabled to heal itself.
Our feet and hands are of great importance not only for their normal daily tasks but also as a reflection of the body and its state of health.
If you prefer, you can have reflexology on your hands but the feet provide the greatest coverage of nerve endings in the body and will provide a deeper quality of treatment.
Reflexology may act as a complement to all forms of standard medical treatment that may help a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
Reflexology may be particularly useful for:
stress related conditions
long term chronic conditions
cases where there is a desire to reduce the reliance on drugs under GP care
people who do not like taking pills
people who produce symptoms for which there appears to be no underlying anatomical cause, having been to the GP
people looking to future-proof their health on a regular basis and keep themselves balanced and in the moment
Our treatments are effective at naturally dealing with a wide range of health issues and symptoms and have, in particular, been proven to help with those experiencing menstrual, and peri menopausal symptoms.
What to Expect at a Reflexology Treatment
Before your treatment you will be sent a brief medical questionnaire this will help focus you and me on the results you're hoping to achieve as well as enabling me to provide you with the right information.
When you arrive you will sit in a specially designed zero gravity chair. There will be aromatherapy and sound therapy alongside your treatment and I will ensure that you are comfortable with the temperature of the room. Don't worry too much about the condition of your tootsies having had them in shoes all day! I will gently cleanse your feet with hot towels as part of the treatment!
How Does Reflexology Work
The massaging action of reflexology encourages relaxation by its soothing effect and most importantly increases blood flow for the overall benefit of the body. The whole process of reflexology is one of calm, gentle movements in a relaxed state. Hot volcanic stones are used throughout your treatment to deepen your overall experience.
The soothing effect of massage also brings about muscular and emotional relief. Blood flow is improved to the muscles, therefore they are able to relax and any toxins released are also taken away through the lymphatic system.
In reflexology some Eastern belief systems link the right side of the body with the past. Here in the West we start with the right foot because the Liver reflex point is here.
How Will I Feel After My Treatment?
Reflexology can sometimes have some side effects - occasionally, the body may experience what is known as a healing crisis, where your symptoms worsen initially and you feel very tired. This is normally short lived and is a sign that your body is addressing its imbalances and an improvement is likely to follow.
To reduce the likelihood of a healing crisis, you should drink plenty of water after your treatment and take an early night's rest on the day of your treatment. You will generally feel relaxed throughout your whole body, your feet will feel light and 'skeletally' you will experience an improvement of movement.
