What is Reiki?
Reiki is a hands-on healing technique discovered in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui at the beginning of the 20th Century.
Reiki pronounced Ray-Key means universal life force energy
Rei can be translated as wisdom and knowledge of the entire universe, and Ki is the Japanese word for the life force energy that surrounds us and flows through every living thing. Together the word conveys a vital force with immense intelligence.
Reiki is a simple yet powerful healing technique that can be learned by anyone.
I have been attuned to Second Degree by my Reiki Master, Georgina Watts, in a way handed down from teacher to student reaching back to Dr Usui.
The reiki energy balances the body mind and spirit for the best outcome of the recipiant.
In Japan Reiki can refer to any form of hands-on healing.
"Reiki is the secret art of inviting happiness, the miraculous medicine for all diseases"
Dr Mikao Usui
What Are The Effects of Reiki?
The long term effects for people undergoing reiki treatments may be that in time they become calmer, more focussed and centred.
In addition they my find that they develop a more positive outlook and feel more equipped to cope with life’s challenges. Their posture may change as muscles relax and energy centres reopen.
What you may experience during a Reiki treatment
The experience of a Reiki treatment is different every time. Many people feel so relaxed they fall in and out of sleep but they still receive all the benefits of the treatment. Some people may feel a sensation of heat or cold coming through the hands of the practitioner. Seeing colours such as green, blue, purple and violet in the space behind the closed eyes is quite common. These may correspond to the energy centres as they unblock.
You may feel tearful during a treatment. This release is an emotional block shifting or letting go of a long standing unresolved problem. This is natural and a very positive step forward in rebalancing the body’s energies.
Very occasionally a sense of pressure or discomfort can be felt in an area that is starting to move again. Your body may twitch as energy pathways clear and tummies may make noises as energy moves.
After Reiki some people feel very tired - this is known as a healing crisis where your body is healing and recalibrating itself. You will want to rest, drink plenty of water and allow your body to do it’s remarkable work. Your energy levels should restore to what you feel is normal, within a couple of days
How is Reiki Given?
You will either sit in a chair or be reclined in the Lafuma Chair and covered with a blanket. Michelle will set your intention of what you want to achieve from the treatment, silently asking the universal life force energy to be used for your highest good.
Hand-on treatment will begin at your head, spending approximately 5 minutes in each position.
Michelle is very intuitive and will always ask you if you are comfortable with her hands touching you. Reiki can also be done hands-off.
You will want to drink plenty of water over the next week to help clear any toxins from previously slow moving areas of the body.
You may continue to feel calm and deeply relaxed, and there is a possibility that your symptoms may increase temporarily. Please tell Michelle if this happens, it is simply the body rebalancing, (some have flu like symptoms).
You may feel energised but do try to take it easy instead of rushing about or you might undo all of the good work.
You may need to rest for a few days.
Sleep patterns may improve and vivid dreams can be a feature.
You may have some emotional release.
